Area Calculator
Calculate the area of common geometric shapes with unit conversion.
About Area Calculation
Area is a measure of the two-dimensional space enclosed within a boundary. Different geometric shapes have distinct formulas derived from their properties. For example, a circle's area depends solely on its radius (A = πr²), while a rectangle's area is the product of its length and width (A = l × w). Understanding which formula to use requires knowing the defining measurements of each shape.
Heron's formula is particularly useful for triangles when you know all three side lengths but not the height. It uses the semi-perimeter s = (a+b+c)/2 to compute A = √(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)). For sectors, the angle must be in radians for the formula A = ½r²θ, though this calculator will automatically convert degrees if needed.
Unit conversion between square meters, square centimeters, square feet, and square inches allows you to work in any measurement system. Note that area units scale as the square of linear units — 1 m² equals 10,000 cm², not just 100 cm².
