Flooring Calculator
Estimate flooring area with an adjustable cutting allowance and optional box coverage, using feet or meters and clear square-foot or square-meter results.
Switching systems clears entered values and restores any labeled editable examples in the new units. Individual dimension unit changes convert the entered length.
About the Flooring Calculator
Measure the floor length and width, then multiply for the rectangular footprint. Measure alcoves separately and add their areas rather than treating every irregular room as a single rectangle. Switch between feet and inches or meters and centimeters for each measurement without manually converting.
A 10% waste allowance is a planning default for cuts, breakage and fitting; diagonal layouts or complex rooms may need more. The order area is footprint area × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100). If your package lists coverage per box, enter that coverage in square feet or square meters as labeled; the box count rounds up to whole boxes.
Packaging coverage varies by product, so use the number printed on your chosen box. For tile counts and tiles-per-box see the Tile Calculator. The Square Footage Calculator handles nonrectangular shapes, while the Concrete Calculator estimates a subfloor slab by volume.
Frequently asked questions
Does the 10% default waste include cuts?
Yes, it is a general planning allowance for cuts and breakage, not a guaranteed amount. Change it for your layout and product.
How is the number of flooring boxes calculated?
The floor area including waste is divided by the coverage printed on each box, then rounded up to a whole box.
Can I use square meters for box coverage?
Yes. In metric mode box coverage is entered in m² per box; in imperial mode it is ft² per box.
