About the Gravel Calculator
Use gravel for paths, drainage strips and landscape areas. This calculator converts every dimension to meters before multiplying, so feet and inches—or meters and centimeters—can be combined safely. It reports geometric volume and an order allowance; the default 10% extra is an estimate, not a compaction specification.
Weight depends on bulk density, including the spaces between stones, rather than the density of solid rock. A default 1,500 kg/m³ means one cubic meter weighs about 1.5 metric tonnes. US short tons are different: one is 2,000 pounds, or 907.18474 kilograms. Ask the supplier which ton they quote before comparing prices.

How much extra gravel should I order?
A 5–10% allowance is a common planning starting point. Uneven ground, handling loss and compaction may require more; follow the supplier or project specification.
Are tons and tonnes the same?
No. Imperial results use US short tons of 2,000 pounds; a metric tonne is 1,000 kilograms.
