About the Golf Handicap Calculator
The Golf Handicap Index is calculated using the World Handicap System (WHS) formula. Each round's Score Differential is computed as: (Adjusted Gross Score − Course Rating) × 113 ÷ Slope Rating. The number of differentials used depends on how many rounds you've played — with 20 rounds, the best 8 differentials are used. The final Handicap Index = average of used differentials × 0.96, truncated to one decimal. For other sports statistics, see our Statistics Calculator.
Slope Rating measures a course's difficulty for a bogey golfer relative to a scratch golfer (113 is standard). Course Rating estimates the expected score for a scratch golfer. The handicap system ensures fair competition across courses of varying difficulty. Rows highlighted in green are the differentials used in your Handicap Index calculation.
